The following Information Sheets explain the work of councils, their responsibilities, and how communities can best work with them, to promote strong sustainable communities. To view the Information Sheets you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader on your PC. You can download Acrobat Reader for free from the Adobe website.
Info Sheet no.1: What is local government? (197kb). This Information Sheet tells you how local government fits with central government and how councils deliver their responsibilities. It also explains the difference between regional councils and territorial authorities in delivering their services.
Info Sheet no.2: How does local government work? (258kb). This Information Sheet explains how councils are structured and how councils decide what services to provide.
Info Sheet no.3: What does your council do for you? (188kb). This Information Sheet lists the different responsibilities regional councils and territorial authorities have.
