This profile shows the number of dog-related injury claims occurring within the boundaries of this Council, and the associated costs of those claims, as reported to the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

Notes

  1. All years presented are as at 30 June.
  2. The claim count equals the number of claims with an accident date in the stated financial year.
  3. Fewer than 3 claims in a financial year are not recorded.
  4. "Dog-related injury claims" are claims for injuries defined as having a primary diagnosis of "contusion, crushing, laceration, puncture wound or soft tissue injury" caused by being "kicked, butted or bitten by a live dog".
  5. Claim costs are in NZ dollars ($), are only for payments made in the same year as the accident date, have not been adjusted for inflation and exclude GST.
  6. The ACC statistics given to the Department of Internal Affairs, some of which have been presented here, do not include any personal identifying information or any information about the dog which caused the injury.
  7. The Department of Internal Affairs disclaims and excludes all liability for any claim, loss, demand or damages of any kind whatsoever (including for negligence) arising out of, or in connection with, the use of this information.
