Rodney District Council Activities
Council Purpose
The purpose of the Rodney District Council is to enable democratic local decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of the District in the present and for the future. In meeting its purpose the Rodney District Council has a variety of roles. From a broad perspective, these include:- facilitating solutions to local needs
- advocacy on behalf of the local community with central government, other local authorities and other agencies
- management and provision of local infrastructure including network infrastructure (e.g. roads, sewage disposal, water, stormwater) and community infrastructure (libraries, parks and recreational facilities)
- environmental management
- responsibilities relating to public health and safety
- planning for the future needs of the district
- waste management
- fostering economic development
- fostering the arts.
