Kaikoura District Council Activities
Council Purpose
The purpose of the Kaikoura District Council is to enable democratic local decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of Kaikoura District and its residents in the present and the future. In meeting its purpose the Kaikoura District Council has a variety of roles:- formulating the District’s strategic direction in conjunction with the community – now known as the Long Term Council Community Plan
- facilitating solutions to local needs
- advocacy on behalf the local community with central government, other local authorities and other agencies
- development of local resources
- management of local infrastructure including network infrastructure (e.g. roads, sewage disposal, water, stormwater and community infrastructure (libraries, parks and recreational facilities)
- environmental management
- providing for the future needs of the Kaikoura District.
