Invercargill City Council Activities
Council Purpose
The purpose of the Invercargill City Council is to enable democratic local decisionmaking to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of Invercargill City, both now and in the future. To achieve this purpose Invercargill City Council:- Plans for the needs of Invercargill City
- Provides stewardship for the efficient and effective use of resources in a sustainable way
- Works with the community to find local solutions to meet local needs
- Provides services to residents and manages the local infrastructure (eg roads, solid waste disposal, sewage disposal, water, stormwater, flood control) and community infrastructure (eg. libraries, parks and reserves, pools and museums)
- Administers regulatory requirements on behalf of central government
- Advocates the needs of Invercargill City to central government and its agencies
- Informs and reports to communities, ratepayers and residents.
