Western Bay of Plenty District Council Activities

Council Purpose

The purpose of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council is to enable democratic local decision-making and to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well being of the Western Bay of Plenty District in the present and for the future. In meeting its purpose, and to achieve outcomes as defined with the community through the Long Term Council Community Plan, the Western Bay of Plenty District Council has a number of roles including:
  • Provider - Council will take full responsibility for funding and carrying out these services.
  • Partner - Council will fund and carry out these services in formal partnership with other organisations.
  • Funder - Council will fund other organisations to carry out these services, for example through grants and service delivery contracts.
  • Regulator - Council has statutory responsibilities and may choose to regulate these activities.
  • Monitor - Council will gather information on these activities and check against progress towards the District Vision and Council Outcomes.
  • Facilitator - Council will encourage others to be involved in these activities by bringing interested parties together to progress identified issues.
  • Advocate - Council will promote the interests of its communities to other decision-making organisations, for example Central Government.
