2007/2008 Local Authority Census (LAC) data released

The Department of Internal Affairs is pleased to advise the release of the 2007/2008 Local Authority Census (LAC) data. The update also includes revisions Statistics NZ has made to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 years. This information is now available on www.localcouncils.govt.nz.

The localcouncils website provides a financial profile for each council by account and also by activity. Profiles are based on the LAC data, with data available back to 1998. The council profiles provide a consistent and comparable set of analysis across all councils. The website also includes a national profile of the Local Government sector.

The LAC information has been completed by individual councils on an accrual basis. The financials are exclusive of GST and are presented is for the Council alone (financials for Council Controlled Organisations are not included).
